These simple vegan brownies are the perfect quick dessert for when the chocolate cravings hit! Just a few simple ingredients and one bowl for a decadent, fudgy dessert.
As a chocolate lover, brownies are definitely one of my favorite treats. I grew up on boxed brownies, and still love them (did you know many boxed brownie mixes are vegan??) but I have to say this recipe is even better and almost as easy!
Reasons to love these simple vegan brownies:
- You only need one bowl and one pan to make them
- The rich taste and gooey texture is so good
- They’re just as tasty (or even more so) as the non-vegan option
- The ingredients are simple and cheap
- They’re so easy to make!
This is the perfect dessert to bring to a dinner party or potluck, and they can be kept for up to a week in and air-tight container. Enjoy with a cold glass of almond milk, a cup of coffee, or a glass of wine!
Ingredients for Simple Vegan Brownies:
You only need to eight ingredients to make these delicious, simple vegan brownies.
Flour: I used all-purpose flour.
Cocoa Powder: I prefer dark cocoa powder for extra rich brownies
Sugar: I used granulated sugar.
Salt: This recipe calls for one fourth teaspoon.
Ground Flax Seed: This is used to make the flax eggs.
Vanilla Extract: Make sure you use pure vanilla extract!
Water: You can substitute the water with plant milk if you like.
Chocolate Chips: Make sure they’re dairy-free!
No oil needed!
Because flax seeds are naturally oily, you don’t need to add any oil or butter to these simple vegan brownies. In the past I’ve made brownies with both flax and additional oil, and they came out far too oily. I’ve found that two flax eggs make the perfect fudgy brownies.
How to make simple vegan brownies:
Start by making the flax eggs. Combine two tbsp water and four tbsp ground flax seeds. Mix and set aside. Then, add all the dry ingredients to a mixing bowl and stir to combine.
Fold in the wet ingredients, including the flax eggs, and mix everything together. Then, add the chocolate chips.
Add the brownie mixture to a baking pan lined with parchment paper, or lightly coated with cooking spray. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 20-25 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean.
Common questions:
Are chocolate chips vegan?
Many chocolate chip brands are vegan! For this recipe I used the Trader Joe’s brand.
Is there an alternative to a flax egg?
I haven’t tested this recipe with other egg alternatives, but you could try using ground chia seeds, or another egg replacer such as Ener-G.
These simple vegan brownies are rich, creamy, sweet, chocolatey, all with no eggs or dairy! Keep reading for the full recipe.
